Meitheal Logainm.ie

Logainm.ie, Meitheal Logainm.ie, Sluafhoinsiú, Taighde, Mionlogainmneacha, Forbairtí nua

[English version below]

Tá sé i gceist againn, as seo go ceann roinnt míonna, áis darb ainm ‘Meitheal Logainm.ie’ a fhorbairt. Deis a bheas anseo do ghrúpaí taighde áitiúil, nó do thaighdeoirí aonair, codanna dá gcuid taighde ar mhionainmneacha a chur le bunachar lárnach agus a thaispeáint ar chuid de shuíomh logainm.ie.

Glacfaidh an suíomh le taifid ó úsáideoirí aonair. Beidh an t-úsáideoir in ann cliceáil ar phointe ar léarscáil – ar leagan deisce agus ar leagan móibíleach – agus eolas logainmníochta faoin áit sin a ionchur. Ag brath ar stádas an úsáideora (anaithnid, sóisearach nó sinsearach) beidh nó ní bheidh na sonraí le feiceáil ar an suíomh poiblí láithreach, díreach mar a dhéantar i gcás Mheitheal Dúchas.ie. Sa chéad leagan den suíomh is mar phointe (seachas mar pholagán) a thaifeadfaidh úsáideoirí comhordanáidí geografacha na n-áiteanna. Féachfaidh muid le háis a chur ar fáil go bhféadfadh an t-úsáideoir polagán a tharraingt ar an léarscáil amach anseo. Tá cúpla íomhá samplach thíos.

De bhreis air seo, glacfaidh foireann Fiontar le baisceanna de thaifid ó eagraíochtaí ar nós cumainn áitiúla logainmníochta. Déanfaidh Fiontar taifid mar seo a ionchur sa bhunachar tríd an ‘gcúldoras’ (seachas tríd an suíomh poiblí) agus beidh siad ina gcuid de bhailiúchán faoi leith. Beidh áit ar fáil ar an suíomh le heolas a thabhairt faoin tionscadal, chomh maith le nasc chuig an suíomh idirlín agus/nó sonraí teagmhála. I gcás tionscadail aitheanta, cruthófar ‘micreashuíomh’ don ábhar sin amháin. Má tá spéis ag d’eagraíocht sa smaoineamh seo, déan teagmháil linn (logainm@dcu.ie).

Beidh buntáistí aige seo do thionscadail mionainmneacha: cinnteoidh sé stóráil fhadtéarmach shábháilte na sonraí; deis poiblíochta don tionscadal a bheidh ann agus cuirfear an pobal mór ar an eolas faoin obair atá ar siúl (déantar suas le 175,000 cuardach ar logainm.ie gach mí).

Tá súil againn an obair seo a chur i láthair ag comhdháil SNSBI a bheidh á óstáil i Maigh Nuad i mí Aibreáin, agus ag ócáidí eile (féach anseo); coinneoidh muid ar an eolas tú má tá tú cláraithe dár nuachtlitir. Tá sé i gceist againn go mbeifear ag cur leis de réir a chéile as seo amach. Tá muid fós ag pleanáil na hoibre seo, agus ar ndóigh beidh an-fháilte roimh phlé agus roimh mholtaí.

English version

In the coming months we will be developing a service called ‘Meitheal Logainm.ie’. Local research groups and individual researchers will have the opportunity to add some of their research on minor placenames to a central database and to display this work on part of the website logainm.ie.

The website will accept records from individual users. The user will be able to click on a point on a map – on either the desktop or mobile version – and input toponymic information about that place. Depending on the status of the user (anonymous, junior or senior) the data will either be made available on the public website immediately or will be moderated, in the same way as with Meitheal Dúchas.ie. In the first version of the website, users will record the geographic coordinates of the places using a point (instead of a polygon). In later versions, it is hoped that users will be able to draw polygons onto the map.

In addition to this, the team in Fiontar will accept batches of records from organisations like local placename societies. We will then input these records into the database through the ‘backdoor’ (instead of through the public website) and they will be stored as individual collections. On the site itself, information about the project will be available, with links to the original website and/or contact details. In the case of recognised projects, a ‘microsite’ will be created specifically for their material. If your organisation is interested in this, be sure to contact us (logainm@dcu.ie).

This will be of considerable benefit to minor names projects: it will ensure the safe long-term storage of the data; it will provide publicity opportunities for the project; and it will make the general public aware of the work being carried out (up to 175,000 searches are made on logainm.ie every month).

We hope to present this work at the SNSBI conference which will be hosted in Maynooth in April, and at other events (see here); if you are subscribed to our newsletter (in Irish) we will keep you up to date. We intend that it will be gradually added to from now on. We are still in the planning stages of this work, and so we welcome your views and suggestions.
