- Definition "principle according to which, other than by direct addition, an additive may (i.e. is permitted to) be present in a food as a result of carry-over [IATE:875985 ] from a food ingredient, subject to the following conditions: (a) the additive is permitted in the raw materials or other ingredients (including food additives); (b) the amount of the additive in the raw materials or other ingredients (including food additives) does not exceed the maximum amount so permitted; (c) the food into which the additive is carried over does not contain the food additive in greater quantity than would be introduced by the use of the ingredients under proper technological conditions or manufacturing practice."
