    Comment In March 2015, Abubakar Shekau’s, Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'Awati Wal-Jihad (Boko Haram), pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, and changed the group’s name to Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). ISIL accepted the pledge the same month, as ISIL spokesman Abou Mohamed al Adnani released an audio message directing individuals who could not enter Iraq or the Syrian Arab Republic to travel to West Africa. In August 2016, ISIL Leadership recognised and appointed Abu Musab al-Barnawi as the de facto leader of ISWAP, which Shekau refused to accept. Due to infighting, ISIL-West Africa split into two factions, al-Barnawi’s faction (ISWAP) and Shekau’s faction (Boko Haram). Both leaders, Shekau and al-Barnawi, are reported to have been killed in 2021.

Quant à "haram", c'est le contraire de "Hallal", c'est ce qui est impur, qui relève du péché.- En mars 2015, le groupe d'Abubakar Shekau, Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'Awati Wal-Jihad (Boko Haram), a prêté allégeance à l'État islamique d'Iraq et du Levant et changé son nom pour celui de «Province d'Afrique de l'Ouest de l'État islamique». L'EIIL a accepté cette allégeance le même mois, l'un de ses porte-paroles, Abou Mohamed al Adnani, ayant diffusé un message audio incitant les personnes qui ne pouvaient pas entrer en Iraq ou en République arabe syrienne à se rendre en Afrique de l'Ouest. En août 2016, la direction de l'EIIL a reconnu Abu Musab al-Barnawi comme dirigeant de fait du groupe «Province d'Afrique de l'Ouest de l'État islamique», ce que Shekau n'a pas accepté. Du fait de ces dissensions, l'EIIL-Afrique de l'Ouest s'est divisé en deux factions: celle d'al-Barnawi (le groupe «Province d'Afrique de l'Ouest de l'État islamique») et celle de Shekau (Boko Haram). Les deux chefs, Shekau et al-Barnawi, auraient été tués en 2021.
