- BOM | bill of materials
- en
- Definition structured list of the raw materials, parts and assemblies that constitute a product to be manufactured Reference Gartner IT Glossary > Bill-of-Materials (BOM) (25.1.2021)
- Comment The bill of materials is the basis of inventory planning and procurement. It is also the basis for recording usage of materials that are used in production or shipped out to fill customers’ orders.1It may be used for communication between manufacturing partners, or confined to a single manufacturing plant. It can define products as they are designed (engineering bill of materials), as they are ordered (sales bill of materials), as they are built (manufacturing bill of materials), or as they are maintained (service bill of materials). The different types of BOMs depend on the business need and use for which they are intended.2
