    Comment It represents the main stakeholders in the common fisheries policy (professional organisations representing the production sector, the processing industry and trade in fishery and aquaculture products as well as non-professional organisations representing the interests of consumers, the environment and development), and enables the Commission to canvas their views on CFP issues and have an ongoing dialogue with the industry. It operates through four working groups, which deal with:- fisheries resources and management; - aquaculture; - markets and trade policy; - general questions, including economics and the condition of the sector. It adopts opinions on around seven or eight major policy issues a year. Its members are appointed by the Commission following proposals from the organisations set up at EU level which are most representative of the interests concerned. It meets according to an annual work programme adopted in agreement with the Commission.
