    Comment EIB-FEMIP builds on the long-standing financial cooperation with the southern and eastern Mediterranean countries. It is successor to earlier investment mechanisms under the "Barcelona process" arising from the Barcelona Declaration adopted at the 1995 Euro-Mediterranean Conference. FEMIP has two priorities: supporting the private sector and creating an investment-friendly environment. It also represents a forum for meetings and dialogue between the Euro-Mediterranean partners.

    Comment Established in 1995 by the Barcelona Declaration [ IATE:891611 ].There are three strands to the Partnership:1. political and security partnership to establish a common area of peace and stability;2. economic and security partnership to create an area of shared prosperity through an economic and financial partnership and the gradual establishment of a free-trade area;3. partnership in social, cultural and human affairs to develop human resources, promote understanding between cultures and exchanges between civil societies.The Euro-Mediterranean Partnership operates through political and sectoral meetings (no longer active) known as the "Barcelona Process" [ IATE:158831 ], and EU-funded programmes (also sometimes referred to as "EuroMed partnerships").In 2008 the Union for the Mediterranean [ IATE:2245777 ] was established to build on, but not replace, the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership.

Le partenariat réunit désormais les 27 États membres de l'Union européenne et 16 partenaires issus de la région du Sud de la Méditerranée et du Moyen-Orient.
