L'organisation fut créée à l'initiative de l'Arabie Saoudite et suite à l'incendie criminel de la mosquée El-Aqsa de Jérusalem, ressenti comme une agression contre l'ensemble du monde musulman. Elle compte actuellement 57 États membres représentant quelques 600 millions de citoyens. (11/04/11) 2.
