    Comment B lim et F lim sont des indicateurs biologiques ou de gestion de la pêche qui définissent le point à partir duquel des mesures de précaution doivent être prises afin de protéger un stock de poisson. Ainsi, F lim = mortalité par pêche maximale acceptable (lim = «limite»). La certitude avec laquelle ces points peuvent être établis varie avec la qualité de l’évaluation des données disponibles. Par conséquent, le CIEM a aussi fixé des points de référence de précaution qui établissent des seuils de biomasse plus élevés que le B lim et des seuils de mortalité par pêche plus bas que le F lim: B pa = biomasse minimale de précaution F pa = mortalité par pêche maximale de précaution (pa = «approche de précaution»).
