Definition standardised six-digit code used by the European Union to label external trade measures, including tariff quotas Reference COM-EN, based on Europa > The European Commission > Taxation and Customs Union > Databases > QUOTA > QUOTA FAQ, http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds/faqqot_en.htm (27.5.2008)
Comment The product coverage of EU external trade measures, including tariff quotas, is defined by reference to the Combined Nomenclature ( IATE:1263472 ). However as such measures may relate to products falling within more than one CN code, the EU uses a standardised six-digit code, known as the order number, to identify each measure. In the case of tariff quotas, the first two digits of the six-digit code are "09". Where the tariff quota is managed (by DG AGRI - IATE:2221997 ) on the basis of import licences, the third digit is "4". The use of any other third digit indicates that the tariff quota is managed in accordance with the chronological order of dates of acceptance of customs declarations.
