    Comment L’éradication de la maladie a été déclarée en 2011: ce n’est que la deuxième maladie, après la variole chez l’homme, à avoir été éradiquée avec succès partout dans le monde. Elle était due à un virus de la famille des Paramyxoviridae, du genre Morbillivirus. Chez de nombreuses espèces d’animaux sauvages et domestiques artiodactyles, y compris les ovins et les caprins, l’infection est à l’origine d’une maladie qui se traduit par des symptômes atténués, mais dans un troupeau de bovins ou de buffles hautement sensibles, espèces les plus souvent atteintes, le taux de mortalité peut atteindre 100 %.
