Definition technique or combination of scrubbing techniques by which sulphur oxides are removed from flue-gases through after having been dissolved in a suitable liquid (water or alkaline solution) Reference COM-Terminology Coordination, based on:European Commission. Joint Research Centre. Best Available Techniques (BAT) Reference Document for Large Combustion Plants, http://eippcb.jrc.ec.europa.eu/reference/BREF/LCP_FinalDraft_06_2016.pdf [13.4.2017]
Comment Simultaneous removal of solid and gaseous compounds may be achieved. Downstream of the wet scrubber, the flue-gases are saturated with water and separation of the droplets is required before discharging the flue-gases. The liquid resulting from the wet scrubbing is sent to a waste water treatment plant and the insoluble matter is collected by sedimentation or filtration. The dry absorber is mixed with some water but all the water evaporates in the flue gas: the product/waste is in solid form. Compare with:- dry desulphurisation process [ IATE:3572639 ] (solid absorber / solid product/waste)- semi-dry desulphurisation process [ IATE:3572638 ] (dry absorber mixed with some water / solid product/waste) See also: : flue-gas desulphurisation (broader) [ IATE:1109703 ]
