En 1977, un protocole complémentaire a été signé suite à l'adhésion du Danemark, de l'Irlande et du Royaume-Uni. Il y a eu ensuite un autre protocole additionnel en 2005 pour tenir compte du nouvel élargissement.À la suite d'une demande officielle adressée par la Turquie au Conseil en juin 2022, il a été décidé d'utiliser en anglais les termes Türkiye/Republic of Türkiye (à la place de Turkey/Republic of Turkey). Cette décision n'a pas d'incidence sur la pratique en français et les appellations Turquie/République de Turquie doivent être conservées.
