- Nóta The constitutional concept, which consisted in repealing all existing Treaties and replacing them by a single text called "Constitution", is abandoned. The Reform Treaty, which was to include the innovations resulting from the 2004 IGC, has been superseded by the Treaty of Lisbon amending the Treaty on European Union and the Treaty establishing the European Community. This new Treaty contains two substantive clauses amending respectively the Treaty on European Union (EU Treaty) [ IATE:865789 ] and the Treaty establishing the European Community (EC Treaty) [ IATE:856545 ]. The EU Treaty keeps its present name and the EC Treaty is called the Treaty on the Functioning of the Union, the Union having a single legal personality. The word 'Community' is replaced by the word 'Union'; the new Treaty states that the two Treaties constitute the Treaties on which the Union is founded and that the Union replaces and succeeds the Community. The Treaty of Lisbon was signed on 13 December 2007 and entered into force on 1 December 2009.
