- Nóta The highest level of administrative division is the directorate-general (DG) [ IATE:1162180 ] or service [ IATE:3536555 ]. All DGs and services are subdivided into 'directorates' [ IATE:1162181 ], which are in turn made up of units. All these administrative divisions are referred to collectively as ‘departments’ [ IATE:1482992 ]. Each unit is headed by a 'head of unit' [ IATE:916220 ]. Some units are further subdivided into sectors [ IATE:3536563 ].In the Directorate-General for Translation [ IATE:2112158 ], the three translation directorates are divided into language departments, which are in turn divided into units. This is currently the only part of the Commission with an additional administrative layer between the directorate and the unit.
