- Nóta „Art der Gazellen und nahe mit der Saiga verwandt. Der etwa 1,3 m körperlange Tschiru lebt in Herden auf dem tibetischen Hochland. Der Körper ist graubraun mit heller Unterseite und schwarz-weißer Gesichtszeichnung; nur die Männchen tragen lange, spitze, fast senkrecht stehende Hörner. Vor allem aufgrund intensiver Bejagung der Tiere sind die Bestände in den letzten Jahren stark zurückgegangen, sodass der Tschiru inzwischen vom Aussterben bedroht ist. Das Fell der Tiere wird in den indischen Bundesstaat Jammu and Kashmir geschmuggelt und dort als Shatoosh-Wolle weiterverarbeitet; die Shatoosh-Wolle ist wegen ihrer guten Wärmeeigenschaften sehr begehrt.“
