    Comment Chronologie des négociations:- en 1992, l'ASEAN a fait sa première déclaration sur le litige en mer de Chine méridionale; elle y appelait à une résolution pacifique des différends et à la négociation d’un "code de conduite international";- en novembre 2002, la Chine et l'ASEAN ont publié une Déclaration sur la conduite des parties dans la mer de Chine méridionale (5.2.2020) (DoC), non contraignante, qui appelle à l'adoption d'un Code de conduite (CoC) pour promouvoir la paix et la stabilité dans la région;- les négociations en vue d'un CoC ont réellement débuté en 2013 (premier projet de texte en août 2018).
