Nóta Cyclodextrins (sometimes called cycloamyloses) are a family of compounds made up of sugar molecules bound together in a ring (cyclic oligosaccharides [ IATE:1450479 ]). Cyclodextrins are produced from starch by means of enzymatic conversion. They are used in food, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries, as well as agriculture and environmental engineering. The naming of the cyclodextrin molecule is based on the number and properties of the glucose molecules within the ring portion. Six, Seven, and Eight glucose units that form cyclodextrin molecules are referred to as Alpha, Beta, and Gamma respectively.
