MRE | ocean energy | marine renewable energy | offshore renewable energy | marine energy | blue energy | renewable ocean energy | OE | offshore energy
    en
Definition energy from renewable sources originating in the seas and oceans Reference Council-EN
Comment Energy from renewable sources, including tidal energy (using both tidal range and tidal streams, wave energy, ocean thermal energy and osmotic (or salinity-gradient) energy; new sources are also being considered, e.g. biofuels from algae, marine biomass, open-ocean currents, offshore solar thermal energy (solar heat), etc. The inclusion of offshore wind energy within this concept varies; in EU texts, 'marine (renewable) energy' is sometimes considered broader than 'ocean energy' due to the inclusion of offshore wind in the former, however this distinction is not set in stone. It should be noted that although renewable energy is often used as shorthand, strictly speaking, it is the (re)sources that are renewable, and not the energy itself. See also marine renewable energy resource.
énergie océanique | énergie renouvelable des océans | énergie marine | énergie marine renouvelable | énergie bleue
    fr
