Sainmhíniú fine-grained, clastic sedimentary rock composed of mud that is a mix of flakes of clay minerals and tiny fragments (silt-sized particles) of other minerals, especially quartz and calcite Tagairt Wikipedia > Shale. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shale [20.1.2012]
Nóta The process in the rock cycle which forms shale is compaction. The fine particles that compose shale can remain suspended in water long after the larger and denser particles of sand have deposited. Shales are typically deposited in very slow moving water and are often found in lakes and lagoonal deposits, in river deltas, on floodplains and offshore from beach sands. They can also be deposited on the continental shelf, in relatively deep, quiet water. This process could have taken millions of years to complete.
Nóta It may contain kerogen; in that case it is classified as oil shale [ IATE:790475 ]. When carbonaceous material is present in large amounts, bituminous shale grades into bituminous coal.
Comhthéacs 'Ar an iomlán, tá bonneagar guail ann in 108 réigiún Eorpacha agus tá beagnach 237 000 duine fostaithe i ngníomhaíochtaí gual-bhainteacha, agus thart ar 10 000 duine fostaithe i ngníomhaíochtaí bainte móna agus thart ar 6 000 duine fostaithe sa tionscal scealla ola. Ní mór aird ar leith a thabhairt ar thionscal an scealla ola mar gheall ar ard‑astaíochtaí dé-ocsaíde carbóin a bhaineann leis an mbreosla sin. Braitheann go leor poist indíreacha bhreise ar shlabhra luacha na mbreoslaí iontaise agus ar phróisis thionsclaíocha atá dian ó thaobh gáis cheaptha teasa de.' Sainmhíniú crude oil trapped within low permeability reservoirs deep below the earth’s surface. Tagairt Canadian Society for Unconventional Resources, Tight Oil (22.4.2020)
Nóta The definition above concerns "tight oil" in its pure state. However, very often the kerogen (oil in a premature status, or "shale oil") is mixed with layers of already mature oil in structures in between the source rocks with low permeability. This oil is classified as tight oil, though very often the separation is unclear and the transition is fluent by gradual changes of maturity. See also: - tight gas (related)
Sainmhíniú immature hydrocarbon stored in large volumes in shales and other very fine-grained rocks with extremely low permeability, in which the volume necessary for storage is provided by small fractures and extremely small pore spaces Tagairt - 'Impacts of shale gas and shale oil extraction on the environment and on human health' (23.4.2020); European Parliament - Directorate General for internal policies - Policy Department A: economic and scientific policy - Museum of the Scottish shale oil industry: Museum > Knowledge > Geology (23.4.2020)
Nóta The oil itself is still in a premature status, called kerogen. To transform kerogen into oil it needs to be heated up to 450 °C (pyrolysis). Very often, the kerogen is mixed with layers of already mature oil in structures in between the source rocks with low permeability. This oil is classified as tight oil, though very often the separation is unclear and the transition is fluent by gradual changes of maturity. In its pure state, tight oil is mature oil trapped in layers of impermeable rock of low porosity. Thus, tight oil extraction in general requires hydraulic fracturing techniques.
