Definition system for mixing fuel with air in an internal combustion engine Reference "Wikipedia > Fuel injection. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_injection [31.8.2011]"
Comment "The primary difference between carburettors [ IATE:1567044 ] and fuel injection is that fuel injection atomizes the fuel by forcibly pumping it through a small nozzle under high pressure, while a carburettor relies on low pressure created by intake air rushing through it to add the fuel to the airstream."

    en
Definition device that pumps fuel into the cylinders of a diesel engine Reference "Wikipedia > Injection pump. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Injection_pump [2.4.2013]"
Comment Traditionally, the injection pump is driven indirectly from the crankshaft by gears, chains or a toothed belt (often the timing belt) that also drives the camshaft. It rotates at half crankshaft speed in a conventional four-stroke engine. Its timing is such that the fuel is injected only very slightly before top dead centre of that cylinder's compression stroke.
