COMMENT The Attorney General also holds the separate office of Advocate General for Northern Ireland. The Advocate General for Scotland is the UK Law Officer with specific responsibility for Scots law matters; the Scottish law officer roughly equivalent to the Attorney General is the Lord Advocate. DEFINITION 1. Au Royaume Uni: membre du barreau et membre du Parlement, désigné par le premier ministre, il est à la fois membre du gouvernement et acteur indépendant de celui-ci. Au premier titre, il est conseiller juridique du gouvernement; dans son rôle indépendant (qui pourrait être comparé à celui du ministère public), il assure la protection de l'ordre public devant les tribunaux et représente la couronne dans les affaires importantes.<br>2. En Irlande: conseiller juridique du gouvernement, aux réunions duquel il assiste. Il donne notamment son avis sur la constitutionnalité des projets de loi et sur la ratification des traités et conventions internationaux.
