    Comment There is an isomeric form of 1,4-dioxin, 1,2-dioxin (or o-dioxin). 1,2-Dioxin is very unstable due to its peroxide-like characteristics.This simple compound is not persistent and has no PCDD-like toxicity.

    Comment Dioxin is a colourless, odourless organic compound containing carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and chlorine. The term dioxin refers to a broad family of chemicals. Of the 210 different dioxin compounds, only 17 are of toxicological concern. The most widely studied and most toxic form of dioxin is 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, abbreviated as 2,3,7,8- TCDD ( IATE:133291 ). It is measured in parts per trillion (ppt). A major accident occurred in Seveso (Italy) in 1976, a consequence of which was the adoption by Member States of EC Directive 82/501 (The Seveso Directive) for the control of major industrial hazards.     Comment Le terme "dioxines" désigne une grande famille de substances chimiques. Sur les 210 composés différents appartenant à cette famille, seuls 17 présentent un risque toxicologique. Le plus toxique et le plus étudié d'entre eux est la 2,3,7,8-tétrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxine (2,3,7,8-TCDD IATE:133291 ). Elle se mesure en parties par trillion (ppt). Elle est à l'origine d'un grave accident qui s'est produit à Seveso (Italie) en 1976 et qui a eu pour conséquence l'adoption par les Etats membres de la directive 82/501/CEE (directive Seveso) concernant les risques d'accidents majeurs de certaines activités industrielles.
