- Comment Die Staatsanwaltschaft (StA) in Deutschland ist eine weisungsgebundene Behörde, die für die Strafverfolgung und -vollstreckung zuständig und als solche ein Teil der Exekutive ist. Sie ist in der Behörden- und Ministerialhierarchie schlussendlich weisungsabhängig vom Justizminister und wird auch mit dem Begriff Anklagebehörde bezeichnet.

- Comment In some jurisdictions, the public prosecutors representing this department before certain (usually high-level) courts may be grouped under a different term (see IATE:916861). Correspondingly, the term 'public prosecutor's office' may refer to the government department as a whole, or specifically to the prosecutors representing the department before lower-level courts. When it refers to the latter, it is headed by an individual whose title varies depending on the jurisdiction (see e.g. IATE:914274, IATE:2218215, IATE:895667).

- Comment Il n'existe pas de ministère public comme tel en droit anglais, où la procédure pénale reste une procédure accusatoire: les poursuites sont engagées au nom de la Couronne et menées le plus souvent par un avocat. Dès lors, ni l'enquête, ni la mise en accusation, ni les poursuites elles-mêmes ne sont menées par du personnel judiciaire.
