    Comment Infestation includes infection. For plant health purposes, infestation means the state of being invaded or overrun by pests. Where the infestation concerns pathogenic micro-organisms invading the host plant, the term is usually replaced by "infection". The term infestation is broader. Infection concerns a contagious micro-organism (virus, bacterium, fungus), while infestation may also concern the presence of a larger pest (insect, nematode) which does not necessarily invade the tissues, but may also be present on the outside of a plant (for example aphids).
