Sa Cheathrú Tuarascáil Mheasúnaithe ón bPainéal Idir-Rialtasach ar an Athrú Aeráide (“IPCC”) de chuid Chreat-Choinbhinsiún na Náisiún Aontaithe ar an Athrú Aeráide (“UNFCCC”), ar páirtí é an tAontas ann(3), sonraíodh, ar bhonn sonraí eolaíocha atá ann cheana, go mbeadh ar thíortha forbartha astaíochtaí gás ceaptha teasa a laghdú 80% go 95% faoi bhun leibhéil 1990 faoi 2050 chun teorainn a chur leis an athrú aeráide domhanda go dtí ardú teochta 2°C agus tionchar aeráide neamh-inmhianaithe a chosc dá bharr.
The Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (‘IPCC’) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (‘UNFCCC’), to which the Union is party(3), stated that, on the basis of existing scientific data, developed countries would need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% to 95% below 1990 levels by 2050 to limit global climate change to a temperature increase of 2°C and thus prevent undesirable climate effects.
