With a view to ensuring a higher common level of resilience and the protection of critical infrastructure, cybersecurity and the financial market, the existing legal framework is being amended and supplemented by the adoption of new rules applicable to critical entities (the ‘CER Directive’), reinforced rules for a high common level of cybersecurity across the Union (the ‘NIS2 Directive’) and new rules applicable for digital operational resilience for the financial sector(‘DORA’).

In order to maintain a close link between matters of security and resilience of submarine cable infrastructures as well as their funding and financing, Member States within the Expert Group should regularly consult, update and closely cooperate with, as appropriate, the NIS Cooperation Group and the CER Group, Member State Committees of Union funding programmes, authorities from third countries, public development and financial institutions, industry representatives, and other stakeholders.
