Support should therefore be focused on the core network and on projects of common interest in the field of traffic management systems, in particular the air traffic management systems resulting from the new-generation European air traffic management system (the SESAR system), which require Union budgetary resources of about EUR 3000 million, as well as the Intelligent Transport System (ITS), Vessel Traffic Monitoring and Information Systems (VTMIS), River Information Services (RIS) and the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS). In the energy sector, financial assistance should focus on completing the internal energy market, ensuring security of supply, promoting sustainability, inter alia by ensuring the transmission of renewable electricity from generation to centres of demand and storage, and attracting public and private investment. In the telecommunications sector, financial assistance should be targeted primarily at projects that will generate demand for broadband, including the building of a European digital service infrastructure, which should in turn stimulate investment in broadband network deployment.
