The wind tunnel method is a road load measurement method using a combination of a wind tunnel and a chassis dynamometer or of a wind tunnel and a flat belt dynamometer.

The wind tunnel tests should be performed for at least three vehicles, covering light, commercial and heavy-duty vehicles.

The applicant for a certificate shall be able to demonstrate that the selection of the parent vehicle meets the provisions as stated in point 5.3. based on scientific methods e.g. computational fluid dynamics (CFD), wind tunnel results or good engineering practice.

If the effect of the installed instrument on (CD × Af) is expected to be greater than 0.015 m2, the difference in the value of (CD × Af) of the vehicle with and without the instrument shall be measured in a wind tunnel fulfilling the criteria in paragraph 3.2. of this annex.
