- Comment L'organisation mondiale du transport routier a été fondée à Genève le 23 mars 1948, soit un an après la Commission économique des Nations Unies pour l’Europe (CEE-ONU), dans le but d’accélérer la reconstruction d’une Europe déchirée par la guerre en facilitant les échanges internationaux grâce au transport routier.À ses débuts, elle regroupait des associations nationales de transporteurs routiers de huit pays d’Europe occidentale : la Belgique, le Danemark, la France, la Norvège, les Pays-Bas, le Royaume-Uni, la Suède et la Suisse.Elle a établi dès 1973 une Délégation permanente auprès de l’UE à Bruxelles, puis une Délégation permanente auprès de la Communauté des Etats indépendants (CEI) à Moscou en 1998, et enfin une Délégation permanente pour le Moyen-Orient et la Région en 2005 à Istanbul.En tant que fédération mondiale de l’industrie regroupant des Associations membres et des Membres affiliés de 73 pays sur les 5 continents, elle représente aujourd'hui les intérêts des exploitants d’autobus, d’autocars, de taxis et de camions à travers le monde, qu’ils soient organisés en flotte ou en exploitation individuelle.
