    Comment Bien qu'il existe 19 filières en France, établies par le Conseil national de l'industrie (CNI), il n'existe pas de définition précise de la notion, une filière pouvant être définie par:- une matière première commune (bois, mines et métallurgie),- un produit commun (automobile, aéronautique, nucléaire) ou- une thématique commune (santé, sécurité). Le concept de filière intègre un nombre croissant de dimensions: mutations de l'environnement économique, évolution des stratégies industrielles et choix des pouvoirs publics. Chaque filière est dotée d'un contrat stratégique de filière et d'un comité stratégique de filière. En France, l'activité économique peut être découpée entre secteur, branche et filière. Selon l'Insee, une branche regroupe des "unités de production homogènes, c'est-à-dire qui fabriquent des produits ou rendent des services qui appartiennent à la même catégorie de la nomenclature d'activité économique considérée", tandis que les secteurs regroupent les "entreprises de fabrication, de commerce ou de service qui ont la même activité principale au regard de la nomenclature d'activité économique considérée".
