    Comment - La réduction consiste à diminuer le nombre d'animaux nécessaires pour une expérience donnée.- Le raffinement permet de réduire les souffrances infligées aux animaux (imagerie médicale remplaçant la dissection, anesthésie, ...).- Le remplacement consiste à substituer des cultures de cellules au modèle animal.Ces principes ont été énoncés par deux scientifiques britanniques, Russell et Burch, en 1959.
