- Definition "Potato cyst nematode (or 'eelworm') is a serious pest of potato crops. The two most common strains - Globodera rostochiensis and Globodera pallida - are commonly known as ""golden nematodes"" and ""white nematodes"" respectively. PCN survives in the soil as tiny cysts containing several hundred young nematodes. These can remain unhatched in the soil for 15-20 years until a potato plant is grown in that soil." Reference ---
