    Comment „Das Virus wird durch Arthropoden der verschiedenen Culicoides - Spezies übertragen und das Auftreten der Krankheit ist saisonal bedingt. Die klinischen Erscheinungen sind durch Kreislaufstörungen und respiratorische Symptome gekenn- zeichnet. Bei subakuten Verläufen ist ein supraorbitales Kopfödem sehr charakteristisch. Die Krankheit kommt endemisch in Afrika südlich der Sahara vor, einzelne Ausbrüche treten bzw. traten auch in Nord - afrika, im Mittleren Osten und in Europa (Spanien u. Portugal) auf.
