    Comment It is difficult to quote an energy for the spectrum that comes from an X-ray tube, owing to the fact that it is polyenergetic. This means it has a spread of energies between zero and the maximum kilovoltage of the tube. As a polyenergetic beam travels through material, lower-energy photons are attenuated more than higher-energy ones. This means that the spread of energies present in the beam will determine how far it will travel in a material, or how penetrating it is.
