The Members States are required to adopt and publish the measures necessary to comply with MiFID 2 by 3 July 2016, and to apply them from 3 January 2017 (on which date MiFID 1 is accordingly repealed). MiFIR also applies from 3 January 2017. However, on 10 February 2016 the Commission proposed to the European Parliament and the Council that the application of both MiFID 2 and MiFIR be postponed by one year, until 3 January 2018.
