- Comment 1. Organisation créée le 25.1.1924; siège: Paris. En 2003, l'Office international des épizooties est devenue l'Organisation mondiale de la santé animale, mais a conservé, dans un premier temps, son acronyme historique «OIE». Depuis le 28 mai 2022, il convient d'utiliser l'acronyme «OMSA».2. L'OMSA a pour mission de:- garantir la transparence de la situation des maladies animales dans le monde;- de collecter, d'analyser et de diffuser l’information scientifique vétérinaire;- d'apporter son expertise et de stimuler la solidarité internationale pour contrôler les maladies animales;- de garantir la sécurité du commerce mondial en élaborant des normes sanitaires pour les échanges internationaux des animaux et de leurs produits dans le cadre du mandat confié à l’OMSA par l’Accord SPS de l’OMC;- de promouvoir le cadre juridique et les ressources des services vétérinaires;- de mieux garantir la sécurité sanitaire des aliments et de promouvoir le bien-être animal en utilisant une approche scientifique.
