Les travaux suggèrent que les personnes s'identifiant à un genre différent de celui qui leur a été attribué à la naissance ne le font pas uniquement pour des raisons psychologiques ou comportementales, mais également pour des raisons biologiques liées à leur matériel génétique, l'organisation de leur cerveau ou une exposition à certaines hormones pendant leur vie intra-utérine.
