Comment The WHO defines adolescent pregnancies broadly as pregnancies of girls under the age of 20: 'adolescent mothers (ages 10–19 years) face higher risks (...).'However, many sources distinguish between adolescent pregnancies and child pregnancies: '(...) the Latin American and Caribbean Committee for the Defense of Women's Rights (...) points out that most child pregnancies are the result of sexual violence perpetrated by family members (incestuous sexual abuse), acquaintances, neighbours, or strangers, in contrast to what happens with pregnancies in adolescents aged 15 to 19 years old, which may occur as a result of early sexual initiation.'
