    sand patch method
    en
Definition a measurement method of texture depth which requires a known volume of a special type of sand to be poured onto the dry road surface. The sand is then spread evenly over the surface to form a roughly circular patch. The area of the patch formed is then determined and divided into the volume to obtain a measure of the average texture depth of the road surface Reference Nelson & Phillips, Quieter Road Surfaces, in: TRL Annual Review, 1997, TRL, p.7
