Definition "ability of an item - either a structural component or a structure consisting of many components - to hold together under all relevant loads, including its own weight, and any combinations of them without causing deflections or deformations of any part of the item such as to impair the durability, structural resistance, serviceability and robustness" Reference "COM-Terminology Coordination, based on:- Proposal for a Regulation laying down harmonised conditions for the marketing of construction products, amending Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 and repealing Regulation (EU) 305/2011, COM/2022/144 final- Lifetech Engineering > What Is Structural Integrity and Why Is It Important? (15.12.2022)"
Comment Structural integrity assures that the construction will perform its designed function during reasonable use, for as long as its intended life span. To construct an item with structural integrity, an engineer must first consider a material’s mechanical properties, such as toughness, strength, weight, hardness, and elasticity, and then determine the size and shape necessary for the material to withstand the desired load for a long life.
