- Comment Wind tunnels are based on the idea that the aerodynamic effects of an object moving in a fluid are identical to the effects of a fluid moving at the same velocity past a stationary object. Wind tunnels have been used to analyse the flight of a sports implements, such as the discus and javelin, and the flow of air over a human body (for example, a cyclist or skier). The body (implement or person) is placed in the wind tunnel, and the air flow is regulated so that the relative motion of the air and subject is the same as it would be in the natural environment.
