    Comment Cocaine is sold in various forms:- Cocaine paste1 is obtained by mixing the leaves with sodium bicarbonate and water. It is sold on the streets of South America and is generally smoked. Of the three forms of cocaine described here, paste is the least pure. - The salt form of cocaine, cocaine hydrochloride, is a fine, white crystalline powder. It is odourless, but has a taste reminiscent of ether. It can be taken orally, snorted (inhaled through the nose, in “lines”), or injected. It cannot be smoked, because it is mostly destroyed by heat. This is the purified form of cocaine.- Freebase is the base form of cocaine. It is a waxy solid that may be white, yellowish, or greyish. It can be smoked or snorted. It cannot be injected, because it is not watersoluble. It is also called “crack2” (because of the crackling sound it makes when smoked) or rock (in the form of small white or yellowish rocks).     Comment Crack cocaine comes in the form of little pebbles, and is also known as rock or freebase. Users take crack by heating it and then inhaling the smoke.
