    Comment "Das europäische Übertragungsnetz ist in Drehstromtechnik gebaut. Bei Drehstrom schwingen Strom und Spannung sinusförmig mit einer Frequenz von 50 Hertz. Das bedeutet, dass 50-mal pro Sekunde eine Welle durchlaufen wird. Im Gegensatz dazu wird die Energie bei der HGÜ-Technologie mit gleichbleibender Spannung und gleichbleibendem Strom übertragen.Beim Energietransport geht immer ein Teil der Energie verloren. Diese sogenannten Wirkleistungsverluste entstehen bei beiden Technologien (HGÜ und HDÜ). Bei Drehstrom kommen aber wegen des Blindleistungsbedarfs des Netzes noch weitere Verluste hinzu.Bei der Hochspannungs-Gleichstromübertragung wird keine Blindleistung benötigt. Dafür ist jedoch am Anfang und am Ende der Leitung je eine Umrichterstation notwendig. Diese bislang noch sehr teuren Stationen wandeln den Drehstrom in Gleichstrom um oder umgekehrt. So ermöglichen sie es, HGÜ-Leitungen ins bestehende Übertragungsnetz einzubauen.
