- Comment IPSC's core competencies were in the field of engineering and information technologies, satellite image processing and analysis, open source information analysis, structural mechanics and risk assessment. IPSC worked in close collaboration with research centres, universities, private companies and international organisations in a concerted effort to develop research-based solutions for the security and protection of citizens. The Institute was located in Ispra, Italy. It took over some of the activities of the former Institute for Systems, Informatics and Safety (ISIS). Following a reorganisation of the Joint Research Centre in 2016, the work of the scientific institutes was redistributed among scientific Directorates.

- Comment établi à Ispra (IT), l'IPSC est né en septembre 2001 de la fusion opérée entre l'Institut des systèmes, de l'informatique et de la sûreté (ISIS, 901003 ) et une partie de l'Institut des applications spatiales (SAI, 901349 ). À la suite de la réorganisation du Centre commun de recherche en 2016, les compétences de l'institut ont été redistribuées entre les directions scientifiques du Centre.
