- Definition intermittently operating wind tunnel in which air is stored at high pressure in a long tube of constant cross-section upstream of the test section; the flow is initiated by opening a quick-acting valve downstream. Practically constant stagnation conditions are thus maintained until the expansion wave propagated upstream has returned to the test section after reflection from the closed end of the long tube. High flow quality is achieved, particularly in respect of freedom from low-frequency oscillations Reference Multilingual Aeronautical Dictionary(AGARD,1980)
