- Comment This is the 1st (higher) of the country's 2 levels of local administration units. There are 6 districts, 4 of which are in the free areas and 2 in the occupied ones. The other sub-national units are: municipality (IATE:3553093 ) and community (IATE:3553097 ). These are on the same level but the first has a larger population. Districts and municipalities whose territories, or part of their territories, are in the areas invaded by the Turks in 1974 have been temporarily relocated to the free areas but maintain their existence and legal status.
