Definition Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) are smaller versions of standard fluorescent lamps. They have a brightness and color rendition that is comparable to incandescent lights, but can replace incandescents that are roughly 3–4 times their wattage, saving up to 75% of the initial lighting energy. Unlike standard fluorescent lamps, they can directly replace standard incandescent bulbs Reference "U.S. Department of Energy, http://www.energysavers.gov/your_home/lighting_daylighting/index.cfm/mytopic=12050"
