Definition The PNC is the only full-time, operational national police computer system routinely supported by data from all police forces. It is the prime source of information in relation to the nominal record of offenders processed by the police, the courts and NPPAs. As few of these agencies have update privilege, all inputting is undertaken by the police. Comment "The PNC holds details of people, vehicles, crimes and property that can be electronically accessed by the police and other criminal justice agencies. It is a national information system maintained and delivered by the NPIA. Some of its functionality includes: QUEST (Querying Using Enhanced Search Techniques) - enables the search of the names database to identify suspects through the use of gathered information such as physical description and personal features. VODS (Vehicle Online Descriptive Search) - allows users to search the vehicles database by search criteria such as registration, postcode and colour details to narrow the list to potential suspect vehicles. ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) - is used to take a visual image of a number plate, the PNC scans thousands of numbers each hour, alerting police to any that are of interest. Property - the PNC can search for items which are lost and found such as firearms, trailers, marine, plants and animals. CRIMELINK - An enhanced, web-based version of the Comparative Case Analysis Tool (CCA), which can be used to so solve serious serial-type crimes by searching for similarities in incidents helping investigators to identify patterns and links. Definition Le Police National Computer, créé en 1995, est une banque de données qui comprend les dossiers de toutes les personnes condamnées et detoutes les personnes recherchées ou portées disparues au Royaume-Uni, excepté l’Irlande du Nord. Une recherche effectuée dans le PNC à partir du nom des contrevenants permet d’obtenir une foule de renseignements susceptibles de permettre de les retrouver. Ces renseignements comprennentles pseudonymes, les noms des complices, les coordonnées, les causes pendantes ou passées, les conditions d’une mise en liberté sous caution, le numéro de passeport et toutes les infractions et condamnations antérieures.
