Definition naturally occurring mineral oil that is composed of hydrocarbons and other organic materials, and can be extracted for burning as fuel or for processing into chemical products Reference "COM-EN, based on:- Investopedia > ... > Crude oil (8.7.2022)- 'crude oil' (8.7.2022), Encyclopedia Britannica- The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 'Chapter 1: Introduction' (8.7.2022), 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories - Volume 2: Energy, prepared by the National Greenhouse Gas Inventories Programme, Eggleston H.S., Buendia L., Miwa K., Ngara T. and Tanabe K. (eds), Institute for Global Environmental Strategies, Japan, 2006"
Comment Crude oil can also include lease condensate (separator liquids) which are recovered from gaseous hydrocarbons in lease separation facilities. In its crude state, it is also less readily ignitable and relatively less dangerous in transport; but a major cause of marine pollution due to spillage. Crude oil may be of paraffinic, asphaltic or mixed base, according to the presence of paraffin wax, bitumen, or both paraffin wax and bitumen in the residue after atmospheric distillation.Crude oil can range from colourless to yellow to black in colour, and can have variable densities and viscosities.
pétrole brut | or noir
