    Comment It was set up in 1960 under the name of the Central Bureau for Nuclear Measurements (CBNM). In 1993 it was renamed to reflect the new mission of the institute, which covers a wide range of measurement problems from food safety to environmental pollution. It was situated in Geel, Belgium. Following a reorganisation of the Joint Research Centre in 2016, the work of the scientific institutes was redistributed among scientific Directorates.

À la suite de la réorganisation du Centre commun de recherche en 2016, les compétences des instituts scientifiques ont été redistribuées entre les directions scientifiques du Centre.
